The importance of marriage and the family

While European nations appear to be sinking further and further into a moral morass, it is heartening to know that many States in the U.S. are actually recognising the importance of marriage and the family, and the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception until natural death.

Through its socialist government, Portugal has recently joined the ranks of other European countries that have passed laws inimical to all areas of family life, in that it has just ratified a law allowing homosexuals and lesbians to have similar ‘marital’ status as normal couples.

However, some consoling news is that in the U.S., the State of New Jersey is the latest to reject the proposal to grant marriage rights to homosexuals and lesbians. By a vote of 20 to 14, a Bill to grant legal recognition to same-sex ‘marriage’ was defeated in the New Jersey Senate. The States of Maine and New York are two of the other U.S. States that have recently said a big NO to such a proposal.

I hope that the Irish Government, which is currently trying to have similar proposals enacted into legislation, will take note of the forward-looking and civilised decisions of those U.S. States, and abandon the Bill that they are trying to force on the Irish people.
